Lena's work depicts the power of a waterscape and the
energy of water in her unique semi-abstract expression.
The work uses both abstract and descriptive aspects to
draw the viewer in and make new connections with the work
each time they look.
Lena works on paper and canvas with watercolour, acrylic,
oil and charcoal and uses tools that scrape, slide, roll,
spread and push. She moves intuitively and dynamically
and sometimes delicately and carefully. She makes marks
that inform the next, expressing movement and stillness,
depth and mood.
Lena is interested in the psychogeography of place and
collects shells and stones that bear the energy and
weight of their environment and history. She drops them
like ice cubes into her jar of painting water to include
and involve them in her process.
Negative ions are created by water molecules hitting each
other. These ions would be found in large amounts near
the sea, rivers, lakes, waterfalls and fountains. We feel
an enormous sense of wellbeing and peace in areas such as
these, which has been linked to the negative ions
effects.
Being in such places, along with cold water swimming,
practicing yoga and painting has become an essential
ritual and an extremely beneficial way to cope with the
stressors of a busy family and working life. Lena's work
captures and shares her passion and the ritual of being
in or near water, with the viewer.

Connection
This exhibition of 2022 work is called Connection as it
desires to express the idea that we are all intrinsically
linked through our energies to our natural world.
Mother earth is like a battery - connect with her and you
will be recharged!
